NHL playoff bets: SGP for Hurricanes-Islanders

The NHL playoffs get going Saturday early evening from Carolina, with the Hurricanes hosting the New York Islanders. I'm happy to see this as the first game of our weekend, because it's one I've been most drawn toward since I began compiling numbers for the eight matchups we have in store.

I'm expecting plenty of Hurricanes shots this series. They averaged north of 40 shots per game in four meetings with New York this year, and are averaging about 36 per game as a team on home ice over the past month and a half.

The Islanders are also particularly vulnerable to shots from the wing, allowing the fifth-most per game across the last 10 games, which coincides nicely with the four players who looked the best to me.

I'm seeing four targets I like best, allow me to briefly touch on why.

Jake Guentzel

• Guentzel has 3+ shots in five of his last seven at home and 3+ in seven of his last nine against the Islanders
• It was on a different team, but last time Guentzel played in the playoffs, he went for 3+ shots in all seven games, averaging 5.57 SOG per game

Martin Necas

• Necas has 13 SOG in his past two games and four SOG in three straight meetings with New York
• He has 3+ shots in seven of his last 10 at home, averaging 3.7 SOG per game
• He's logged 3+ shots in five of the last six home games against the Islanders

Andrei Svechnikov

• Svechnikov has 3+ SOG in seven of his last 10 at home, with five SOG in three of his last four
• He has 3+ shots in four of his last five home games vs. New York, including four SOG in both home meetings this season

Teuvo Teravainen

• Teravainen has 13 SOG in his last four games and 2+ shots in eight of his last 10 at home, averaging 2.5 SOG per game
• He has 2+ shots in all four games against the Isles this year, and eight of the last 11 meetings, including six of the past seven at home
