Ravens named as a team that could end up signing the NFL’s top free agent remaining
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Despite the NFL Draft taking much of the attention lately, free agency is still ongoing in the NFL with some big names out there.

Derrick Henry was the prized offseason signing for the Baltimore Ravens, who took a few losses with their own free agents signing elsewhere.

An idea has been floated by The Athletic that the Ravens could be suitors for the top player left on the free agency market and it is not so far-fetched.

Ravens a possible fit for S Justin Simmons

Simmons not signing already was a surprise to me as he should be a player that commands a multi-year deal you would think with the level of play he has been at. He was a Pro Bowler last season for the second time but was released by the Denver Broncos as they look toward the future.

“The Ravens use a ton of three-safety looks, and having a guy like Simmons would give defensive coordinator Zach Orr the freedom to move Hamilton around. There are a ton of accomplished veteran safeties still available, including Micah Hyde, Quandre Diggs, Eddie Jackson, and Marcus Maye. Simmons is probably the best of them all.” - Jeff Zrebiec, The Athletic

If chasing a ring at age 30 is something that Simmons wants to do, Baltimore may be the place. Kyle Hamilton is the star safety of the team but adding Simmons would give them another playmaker in the defensive backfield that has 30 career interceptions in eight seasons.

Every season since 2018, Simmons has had at least three interceptions. Last season he had a trio of them and 70 tackles to make his fourth All-Pro team and second Pro Bowl.

Baltimore has not been very active in free agency overall outside of Henry and a couple of other adds but Simmons would be a late add in the process that could help them chase their goal of winning another Super Bowl.
